Traffic Safety

It is the responsibility of all police officers to enforce traffic safety regulations.

The department, in cooperation with the VIPS force, is active in providing community and school presentations on traffic safety. The goal of each presentation is to engage in early education before enforcement becomes necessary. This includes talks arranged by the Traffic Safety Coordinator at drivers’ education schools and frequent participation in car seat inspections and safety clinics.

The Chelan/Douglas Traffic Safety Coordinator (TSC) works on a variety of prevention projects. The TSC is a representative of the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission and works in partnership with all law enforcement agencies in Chelan and Douglas Counties who enforce traffic laws. The TSC obtains state funding for additional enforcement emphasis patrols (DUI, speed, child restraint, and seat belt), and funding for in-school and public presentations on child and traffic safety.

The movement and placement of the department’s radar trailer is coordinated by the VIPS team. To suggest a location for the placement of the radar trailer to display drivers’ speeds as an educational tool, contact the Special Services Division Sergeant at (509) 888-4205.
