The Long-Range Planning staff is responsible for maintaining the Wenatchee Urban Area Comprehensive Plan consistent with the state's Growth Management Act, Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 36.70A.  Sometimes referred to as a general plan or master plan, a comprehensive plan is a policy document that guides future growth in a community by setting priorities, directing land use changes, planning capital improvements, and controlling the rate, timing, design and location of development. It is based upon the long-term goals and objectives established by citizens, local officials, and other stakeholders through a public participation process. Ideally, a comprehensive plan should be an ambitious vision of what a community “wants to be when it grows up”.  

In addition to the Wenatchee Urban Area Comprehensive Plan, the City of Wenatchee has adopted a variety of sub-area plans and a Shoreline Master Program.  Each subarea plan targets a specific area of the City; such areas range from the Grandview historic neighborhood to the waterfront redevelopment area.  Sub-area plans provide a cohesive vision that is implemented by development standards and/or prioritizing public infrastructure improvements.
