Home MenuNorth Wenatchee Avenue Water Quality Improvements
Why is the City doing this Project?
The North Wenatchee Avenue Stormwater Facility is a diversion structure that directs stormwater runoff from the north end of the City of Wenatchee to a series of three ditches running north along the BNSF railroad tracks. The ditches ultimately discharge to the Wenatchee River. This project will reduce stormwater pollutants from the M6000 basin, working to restore the waterways in the Horan Natural Area.
Project Goals:
- Increase water quality that runs to the Wenatchee River / Columbia River.
- Treat stormwater runoff from North Wenatchee Avenue between Walnut Street and the Wenatchee River Bridge. And from the Northern Stormwater basin of the City that pipes to the Avenue.
- The project will provide improvement to the stormwater system to meet current requirements of Washington Department of Ecology using best management practices.
What will the Project include?
The North Wenatchee Avenue stormwater system combines about 205 acres from its northern basin of the city with this Avenue. It is piped in an easement between Claudio's Mexican Food, Wendy's and Holiday Inn Express Wenatchee toward the Railroad and currently drains northerly to the Wenatchee River.
This project will intercept the existing pipe located in that easement and add new storm structures that provide pretreatment and oil control. Installation will include short term traffic reroute, with partial road closure, due to the depth of excavation, construction equipment will remove soil and a crane will unload structures and set those into the excavation.
What to expect
The work is set to begin in 2024 and have 20 working days. The working hours will be between 7:00am-6:00pm.
